How to Survive a Long Distance Relationship

Being in a long distance relationship is definitely a challenge.  It can get lonely, complicated and frustrating sometimes.   It can either pull you apart or bring you and your partner closer together.

In this article, I will talk about the different ways that every couple should do to make their long distance relationship work.

 Be Committed

Commitment is the first and the most important thing to have in this kind of relationship.  In order to develop and maintain your long distance relationship, both of you should be equally committed.   Why waste each other’s time and effort if you are not even on the same page?  Be open and communicate effectively to know each other’s opinions and feelings towards the relationship.

Communicate Effectively

Effective communication is the key to a long lasting relationship.  No matter what kind of relationship it is.  But in a long distance relationship, it is even more important because this is the only thing that connects you with your partner.

In this digital age, it is now very easy to communicate with your loved ones who live away from you.  With Social Media, Instant Messaging and Video Call, you can talk to them whenever and wherever you want.

Update Each Other

It is best if you and your partner are updated with each other’s whereabouts.  But don’t overdo it.  Excessive communication is also bad for a relationship.

Be Honest

Like any kind of relationship, honesty is one of the pillars of a successful relationship.  Be open and honest with each other.  Talk to them about your feelings.  May it be fear, insecurity, jealousy or whatsoever.  No matter how small it is, never hide it from your partner because it may be a cause of a much bigger problem in the future.  Always remember that no secret stays hidden forever.

 Do Things Together

Who says that couples in LDR can’t have dates?  You can still do fun things together despite the distance.  Thanks to Video Chat services such as Skype, Facetime, etc., you can now see and talk to your partner in real time.  Together, you can watch movies online, play games and listen to music.  You can all also cook and eat together.  You just need to be creative and spontaneous.

Take Time to Visit

The most awaited part in every long distance relationship is the part when you will finally meet after all the waiting and yearning.

Enjoy Your Time

Take this time apart to give more time for yourself, your friends and your family.  You can start a new hobby or go on vacation trips.  Your world doesn’t revolve around your partner alone.  Don’t dwell on being alone and lonely.

When you feel like giving up, always remember your love for your partner and your future together.
