Make 2016 Your Best Year Ever by Sticking to Your New Year’s Resolutions

As we say goodbye to 2015, we start a new chapter in our lives by welcoming 2016.  The New Year is an opportunity for us to renew ourselves, refresh our minds, reflect on the previous year’s journey and think about how we can make the next one better.

During this this time, we set new goals and make promises to ourselves. However, 90% of the time, we lose track and end up not achieving even half of the list.

Here are 6 tips on how you can keep your New Year’s resolutions:

  1. Be Realistic

Make small and realistic goals.  Don’t push yourself too hard by choosing resolutions that are hard to maintain.  By doing this, you will just end up not being able to achieve it.

  1. Be Specific

Don’t choose vague resolutions.  If you want to achieve something, it is very important to be specific in order to avoid losing track.  For example, don’t just say “Learn a new language.” – think of what language you really want and set that as a goal.

  1. Write down your Resolutions

It is very important to make written goals because it will help solidify your resolutions and keep you on track.  You can use your smartphone to list down your resolutions or keep a journal if you still favor pen and paper over gadgets.

  1. Talk About It

Having someone to talk to and share your goals can really help you in achieving your goals.  Aside from the inspiration and motivation that you can draw from others, you might also be able to learn from them and get support.

  1. Don’t Give Up Easily

Changes don’t happen overnight and no one is perfect.  So if you encounter challenges or mishaps, keep in mind that it is normal and completely okay.  So don’t give up, recover from your mistakes and just keep going.

  1. Treat Yourself

Tracking your progress allows you to see met goals and having the idea of a reward can definitely motivate you to achieve your resolutions.  But keep in mind that the reward should not contradict your resolutions.  If you have fitness goals, then make sure not to reward yourself a box of chocolates.
