Keeping the Flames Alive after Decades of a Relationship

Being in love is easy when you are in your twenties: you meet someone, get to know them, find out you have a few things in common, and boom! – love is born. But, when you are older and trying to maintain a healthy relationship after several decades, things can get trickier. Some people get tired of trying to make their partners happy or just do not feel like jumping through hoops for someone they think is not going anywhere. And this is where they make mistakes. Once you stop trying, your relationship will be headed in the wrong direction. In order to prevent that from happening, you must try to keep the flames alive, even after decades of living under the same roof, and here are several ideas you might consider.

A Romantic Trip

Yes, this sounds cheesy and cliché, but it actually works. When you have known someone for years and years, choosing a holiday destination is easy, but not all holidays are exciting and adventurous after a decade-long relationship. Especially with children – if you go to a summer vacation with them, do not expect to relax or rejuvenate as you will be on child patrol 24/7. That is why a couples-only trip is something you should do at least once a year.

The destination is more or less irrelevant as long as you are together, but that does not mean that you should not think outside the box for once. Places like Rome, Paris or Lisbon are perfect for recapturing the flame, but consider the fun you will be having at the islands of the Caribbean, the Seychelles or the Bahamas.

A Romantic Dinner

Even though this is another straight-out-of-the-movies type of thing, you cannot imagine how romantic and exciting a simple dinner can be. Especially when a man prepares it for his partner after she has had another long day at the office. Of course, this dinner does not have to be perfect, but it is the thought that counts and your partner will surely appreciate it.

There are two things you have to think about of when preparing a nice romantic dinner: the meal and the atmosphere. The first is easy – choose something simple, yet extravagant – while the latter depends on your personal preferences. You should add a few romantic items to the table, open an extraordinary bottle of wine, or even go to the park – a romantic picnic, equipped with romantic picnic foods, will make you feel much younger in just a few minutes, and also show your partner how special they are.

A Romantic Photo

One of the most creative ways of acting and feeling young again is taking photographs. It does not require much: everyone can afford a smartphone or a disposable camera and use it during the aforementioned trips, at romantic places all over the world, or at romantic dinners. You can even go a step further and make a scrapbook or a video montage to show your love! Finally, these love images can be sold online later on and you can make a few extra dollars, but the simple process of making them, and looking at them together, will make you feel like you are twenty again.

Just Act Young!

This can sound silly at first – but acting young and in love will make you feel like you are young and in love! There is no age limit to having certain romantic feelings towards another person, and just because you are in your fifties, sixties, seventies or eighties does not mean that you should not express your love. And the best way to do it is to act like you did some decades ago!
