How Traveling Can Help You Deal with Your Broken Heart

We’ve all experienced having our hearts broken, yes?  Each of us has our own way of coping with a break up.   Crying ourselves to sleep… torturing ourselves while watching sad movies with a bowl of ice cream in hand… drinking till 4 am… I understand that someone who has his/her heart broken has every right to mourn for the love that was lost.  But there comes a time when you should start moving on.  You can’t just hide from the world and cry forever, right?  One of the best ways to help you with that is to travel.  I know it’s not that easy but trust me, it helps a lot.

Here’s how…

It is a distraction.

Traveling to a new place distracts you from entertaining obsessive thoughts about your break up.  From the planning and packing… to the beautiful sights that you are about to see…  you won’t have time to think about what your ex is up to.

You get to meet new people.

Whether you are traveling solo or with your friends, being in a new place is a great way to meet new people.  You may get to meet people who will inspire you in life, gain new friends or even possibly meet your future partner.  You’ll never know.

You get to appreciate life even more.

Sometimes, when you get your heart broken, your initial thought is that there’s no more reason to wake up every day or that your life is crashed and meaningless.  But when you travel, you get to open your eyes, mind and heart to the beauty of the world and experience a new culture.  Life goes on and despite of the harsh reality, life is beautiful and you should miss out on it.

You learn how to become independent again.

For those who have been in long term relationships, being alone again is a strange feeling and sometimes, you forget that you are your own person.  You were so used to have your partner always by your side that you don’t know anymore how to live on your own.  The best way to deal with this is to challenge yourself to travel solo.  No doubt, you will be able to learn how to be alone and even revel in it.  But whether you are traveling alone or not, it will make you realize that you can be happy on your own and you are capable of creating beautiful memories even without your partner with you anymore.
