5 Destinations to Celebrate a Sunny Christmas

Are you bored of celebrating a White Christmas year after year?  Is the lack of sunshine turning you into a Grinch? Well, `tis the Sea-Sun to be jolly!  I know we’re only a month away and I’m not sure if that’s enough time to plan for a tropical holiday but hey, it’s never too early to start planning for next year, right?  So if you want to leave winter behind and enjoy a sunny Christmas somewhere else, here are the best destinations to give you some guaranteed holiday fun and warmth, literally.

Kauai, Hawaii

Take advantage of the warmth, the waves and whales migrating to the islands’ warm waters for some surfing and whale watching activities.  Aside from relaxing and having fun at the beach, there are a bunch of holiday events to enjoy during the month of December.  That includes a Christmas parade called Festival of Lights, a Christmas Craft Fair and Wreath Exhibit, and of course, a night of hula dancing and chanting to traditional Hawaiian music and holiday songs at The Holiday Hula Celebration held in Marriott Resort and Beach Club.

Oahu, Hawaii

If you wanna see Santa on a surf board instead of a sleigh, then you should spend Christmas in Oahu.  You’ll love the Honolulu City lights too which is one of the premiere tree lighting festivals in the country.  Another unique event in Oahu is their annual Jingle Bell Rock.  So if you want to shed a few calories from Thanksgiving, in preparation for Christmas and New Year feast, then you should sign up.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Celebrate a traditional Christmas with an exotic flare in Puerto Rico.  You’ll enjoy the beauty of the 500-year-old city decorated with colorful and dazzling lights for the holidays.  If shopping is in your itinerary, then San Juan won’t fail you.  It’s a great time to get great deals on unique Puerto Rican souvenirs such as hand-carved wooden saints that they call santo.  Since it’s a US territory, all you need is proof of citizenship or residency, not necessarily a passport.

If you don’t want to leave the country, according to Currentresult.com, the warmest city in the US for the month of December this year is Miami with average highs of 77 degrees daily and the sunniest warm city is Yuma which will have 82% sunshine.

Miami, Florida

Imagine garland-wrapped palm trees and Christmas trees made of sand.  Enjoy a bunch of Christmas events in the city that are ideal for families celebrating the holiday.  A visit to Santa’s Enchanted Forest shouldn’t be missed because it’s Miami’s lasting holiday tradition.  Think country fair with a winter wonderland vibe.  Enjoy carnival games, amusement rides and an assortment of Christmas-y fair food.  The city also offers a bunch of shows such as The Nutcracker ballet and hip hop (two different shows) productions and A Christmas Carol Musical.  And of course let’s not forget about shopping.  During Christmas time, the Miami Shores theater transforms into a Christmas village where you can find local vendors selling all sorts of gift-worthy items.

Yuma, Arizona

In Yuma, they have a Christmas Village that is open to the public beginning on the 15th of the month of December where kids and kids at heart can enjoy riding the Christmas Train and sledding on the Snow Hill.  You’ll also enjoy their Candy Cane Lane where you can enjoy performances at the park while munching on some holiday sweets and treats.  For those who love the outdoors, you can have a cowboy Christmas at the park while having s’mores at the campfire while listening to the sounds of Arizona Old Time Fiddlers.

So there you have it – 5 sunny destinations to keep the winter blues away this Christmas Season!
