How to Use Alexa for Date Nights

Amazon’s famous  virtual assistant that powers the Echo, Dot, Tap and Show can perform thousands of tasks for you with just your voice – from controlling your smart home devices, planning your calendar and to do lists, answering your questions, playing music and so much more.

But did you know that you can also use your Alexa-enabled device for your date nights?

You see, date nights are crucial in every relationship, to keep the spark alive and improve communication. However,  planning for one can sometimes be a challenge, especially for couples who have been together for a long time.  You know, those little things like deciding on which movie to watch, which restaurant to eat and what activities to do over the weekend.  I’m sure every couple can understand the struggle.

In today’s article, let me share with you a few ways and some new Alexa skills that could help you enjoy a fun and hassle-free date night with your significant other.

Sync schedules.

One problem that couples always face is that they’re too busy with work, chores and other responsibilities to even schedule a date night.  And let’s admit it, sometimes you tend to forget important occassions like birthdays and anniversaries.

With Alexa, you can connect your calendar and even your partner’s calendar to manage your schedules, add events, and even receive alarms or notifications prior to the scheduled date night or occasion.

Make decisions.

Another dilemma that I’m sure many of you can relate with is not knowing where to eat.   Don’t worry, Alexa will help you make your decisions.  Just asign a number for each option then ask Alexa to roll a dice or pick a number.  For example, “Alexa, pick a number between 1 and 3.”  If you don’t know who’s suggestion to follow, just ask Alexa to flip a coin.  Easy.

Check for restaurant reviews.

If you’re familiar with Yelp, it’s an online hub for user reviews and recommendations of top restaurants, retail stores, clubs, services and more.  Now that it has integrated with the Echo, it’s easier to check out reviews of places to eat and drink as well as recommendations with just your voice.

Order pizza.

Now if you want to have a chill, laid-back date night at home, a pizza is a must.  There’s no need to pick-up the phone because you can just say, “Alexa, open Dominos and place an order” or “Alexa, ask Pizza Hut to reorder.”

Search for movies and music.

Can’t decide on which movie or tv show to watch?   Just tell Alexa what genre you are looking for.  For example, “Alexa, find comedies.”  You can even play, pause, rewind or fast forward the movie/show without lifting a finger.  Same goes for playing music.

Play games.

If you want to play a game, you can actually use your Alexa device to play Bingo or Twister.  All you need to do is enable the Bingo and Twister Spinner skills that you can find on the Alexa Skill Store.

Find things to do.

Lastly, there is an Alexa skill that is actually made for date nights.  Date Night is a skill that you can enable to get random, crowdsourced suggestions on activities or restaurants in your city.
