The 7 Things You Need to Remove from Your Life If You Want to Be Happy

They say that happiness is a choice, I totally agree.  We all have the ability to create real and lasting happiness for ourselves, no matter what life throws at us.

I know that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows; it’s exactly the opposite – cruel, hard and it will beat you to your knees.  But that doesn’t mean we should just let it stop us from being happy.

There is no secret formula to finding true happiness, but one of the many things that we can do is to get rid of certain things that pull us down.

Here are the 7 things you need to let go of, to make room for the happiness you truly deserve.

1. Unrealistic Expectations

Expectation is the root of disappointments.  You see, unfulfilled hopes, desires and expectations causes sadness and misery.  So if you want to stay happy, you should stop creating unrealistic expectations for yourself, of circumstances and the people around you.  We’re humans; of course it’s our nature to have expectations.  But the key to happiness is setting realistic expectations – that life isn’t perfect, people have flaws and that not everyone can reciprocate your deeds and feelings.

As for yourself, know that you are not a superhero, just like everyone else.  Free yourself from the trap of expectations that you set upon yourselves.  Be carefree, be open and be easy on yourself while staying connected, grounded and focused on your end goal.

2. Constant Complaining

Instead of complaining about what you lack, just focus on being grateful for what you have.  Complaining is a negative energy that will just drag you down.  The next time you catch yourself on the verge of complaining, just think of something positive and not let that negative thought ruin your day.

3. Self-Hatred

Obviously, you can never be happy if you hate yourself.  Self-love and a healthy relationship with oneself contribute to a happier life and well-being.  Accept who you are, embrace your failures, stop comparing yourself with others and most importantly, be kind to yourself.

4. Explaining Yourself

You don’t need anyone’s approval, nor there is a need for you to explain yourself to the people around you.  When you let go of that, trust me, you’ll feel instantly lighter and happier.

5. Clutter

A cluttered surrounding equals a cluttered mind, which then causes stress and unhappiness.  Get rid of clutter to make more room in your space, and more room for happiness in your life as well.  Don’t know where to start?  I recommend you this book from Marie Kondo, which teaches about the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing.

6. Grudge

Having a grudge means living in the past.  It can weight you down and definitely cause unhappiness.  While forgiveness doesn’t really flow easily for most of us, just make a strong and conscious effort to let go of grudges and just forget about them.

7. Toxic People

Last but definitely the least is removing toxic people from your life.  We can’t really control other people’s actions but we can easily cut them off from our lives.  Whether it’s ending harmful friendships, breaking up with a toxic long-time partner, or the simple act of unfollowing annoying and negative people from your social media, doing all these things will do wonders for your wellness.  Bid them goodbye and surround yourself with positive people instead.
