If there’s honeymoon for newlyweds, there’s also babymoon for expecting couples. Nope, it’s not the same as a baby shower. It’s a whole different shenanigan that modern parents spend on nowadays.
If you’re clueless about what this is (like how I was when I first heard this thing), it’s actually a new pre-baby trend in which soon to be moms and dads go on a mini vacation before welcoming their little one and prior to embarking on a new adventure called parenthood.
It may seem too “extra” for some but you know what, there are so many good reasons why you should hop on this trend. And no, it doesn’t have to be a grandiose vacation on a tropical paradise (but if you’re into that, I’ll share some top destinations on my next article), a weekend staycation or a relaxing spa day with your partner will surely be a treat.
To convince you to go on a babymoon, here are 5 reasons why it’s worth taking the time off:
1. Because you should take advantage of this freedom.
The next time you and your partner go on a vacation, your itinerary will revolve on kid-friendly activities. So make use of this time to do what you both want and for as long as you like, without nap-times, feedings and diaper changes to worry about yet.
2. Because it’s a romantic moment for you and your sweetheart.
Before “you & me” becomes “us,” a quality time with your significant other will do wonders for your relationship and make you walk into parenthood even more connected than ever. Sorry hubby, but the moment your child enters the world, you’re no longer the center of your wife’s attention. And let’s not forget about sleep deprivation, dirty diapers and baby vomit that are without a doubt, romance-killers.
3. Because it’s a great opportunity to reflect about your new journey as parents.
Take this time reflect on this upcoming life-changing event. Sit down with your partner and talk about your future plans – whether it’s your baby’s name, nursery decor, parenting style, etc. , as well as your dreams and aspirations for your child. Here’s a tip: Get a special journal to take with you to jot down your experiences together.
4. Because it’s a wonderful way to get some much needed R&R.
In between frequent bathroom breaks, hormonal changes and random cramps and aches, pregnancy can be pretty exhausting. Make use of this vacay time to unwind, relax and have fun. Get those happy hormones pumping so you’ll come back ready for your last few months of pregnancy energized.
5. Because you deserve it.
Yes, I’m talking to you, momma. If you’re lucky to get the chance to go on a babymoon, just grab it! After all, you deserve to treat yourself (Now, I’m looking at you, dad… Your queen deserves a holiday treat!)
